EA Sports NEED FOR SPEED series and its sub-games, the NEED FOR SPEED UNDERGROUND series, have made a name for themselves as games featuring street racing. NEED FOR SPEED UNDERGROUND RIVALS for the PSP is no different, giving players the ability to participate in high-speed illegal street races wherever they go. The game includes over 20 licensed cars to race, including the Dodge Neon and Pontiac GTO. The game features several racing modes, the main of which is the multi lap circuit races. There’s also a knock-out tournament mode which eliminates the last-place car each lap. Rally relay races have players changing cars each lap, and the nitrous run challenge pits players against the clock as they try to hit as many time bonuses as possible while crossing the finish line as fast as they can. Other modes include the technical-ability-testing street cross mode, drift attack mode, and the popular drag racing mode. Players can also challenge each other using the wireless multiplayer mode. As players achieve victory, they will unlock more cars and be awarded upgrade points to use to change cars’ appearances or enhance their abilities. While upgrading the appearance of a car is fun, it doesn’t change a car’s abilities. To do that, players must spend points in one of ten different performance categories, including engine, drivetrain, and brakes. Racing fans who are tired of the track will enjoy hitting the streets to race. NEED FOR SPEED UNDERGROUND RIVALS includes everything racing fans love in a fresh setting.
